Joe Gauthreaux

How did you start your DJ career?

I started playing records in 1996 during happy hour shifts at Oz Nightclub in New Orleans. One Saturday, I had to fill in for the peak hour DJ. The following week, I got promoted to Saturday Night resident. My name grew from there.

How would you describe your music style?

I’m a genuine lover of so many genres of house music – vocals, progressive house, peak hour bangers. I tend to forget about genres as long as a record has a hook that pulls me in.

What is your favorite part about being a DJ?

The crowd interaction and seeing people respond positively on the dance floor. Being connected to so many people through music, many of whom I’ve never met, is a powerful thing, and never gets old.

What do you enjoy most about the circuit party scene?

The people I meet and friendships I’ve made through the years.

What is your advice to anyone who wants to become a DJ?

Don’t jump into the deep end until you know how to swim.

What is one thing you'd like people to know about you?

That I’m creative, hardworking, and imaginative. Those things don’t necessarily translate when you’re scrolling the feed at 500 mph.
