Dan Darlington

How did you start your DJ career?

My DJ career started with making mix tapes for my friends. I started playing around with Virtual DJ, and in my twenties I decided to move to New York City to learn from professionals at Scratch Academy. My first gig was playing for free at Rock Bar in NYC every Tuesday night. I did that for many months before starting my own party at a basement bar in Chinatown.

How would you describe your music style?

Oh shit, I’m all over the place. I follow the crowd, and play anything I think I can dance to, and always checking in that the crowd is dancing along with me. Techno, trance, tech house, top 40 remix… I am very very very vocal. Vocals speak to me (literally).

What is your favorite part about being a DJ?

My favorite part is the responsibility. I love people putting their faith in me for a good night out, because I know I am going to deliver a good night out.

What do you enjoy most about the circuit party scene?

The community. The opportunity to see people regularly who live all across the country. Seeing people express themselves out loud and freely.

What is your advice to anyone who wants to become a DJ?

Discover who you want to be and who you want to present. Also understand that your role as a DJ is to fill that dance floor and keep it going. Always keep your eyes on the crowd.

What is one thing you'd like people to know about you?

Everyone is welcome on my dance floor.
